Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) Reconstruction
Rebuilding the Knee
The knee is held together by four main ligaments, of which one is the anterior
cruciate ligament, or ACL. The ACL, as reported by the American Academy
of Orthopaedic Surgeons, holds the knee and tibia in place, and keeps
the joint from over-rotating. As 25% of the knee’s stability, it
is a particularly crucial ligament.
ACL reconstruction employs a graft, taken either from a donor or elsewhere
on the patient’s body, to form a whole new ACL. Our arthroscopic
methods means we conduct the entire surgery through a handful of small
incisions. This can result in better outcomes and less pain for our patients,
while providing the benefits of a fully-functional knee.
