Skilled Elbow Replacement Surgeon
Available in Palm Beach County
When the elbow joint is inflamed and medication provides no pain relief
or increased mobility, elbow replacement may be the option. Elbow replacement
was once reserved exclusively for patients with inflammatory diseases,
such as rheumatoid arthritis. However, evolving developments have led
to an increased number of appropriate patients for elbow replacements,
according to a study by the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at the University
of California in Los Angeles.
The procedure involves opening up the elbow joint and replacing the non-functioning
joint with a mechanical hinge. Current procedures have two options: the
hinge can sit between the humerus and the Ulna, held in place by the tendons,
or it can be linked to two metal posts inside the bones. Currently, surgeons
prefer to use linked hinges, as they provide greater stability.
