Treatment for Pediatric Flatfeet

Skilled Children’s Orthopaedists

Flatfootedness is a condition where the arch of the foot is missing, so the entire foot lies flat on the ground. It also causes the ankles to lean out slightly, eventually causing pain and discomfort in patients. Many people with flatfeet will find that they cannot participate in physical activity for very long before pain and exhaustion affect them.

Flatfeet is a fairly common deformity in children and adults, but may be treatable through a variety of methods. Non-surgical methods include physical therapy and corrective devices for shoes. These provide short term comfort, but also ensure the foot develops correctly. Surgical solutions will restructure the foot to include an arch, but this solution is reserved for severe arch loss.
